Al-Jubail/Mangaluru, Nov 5: An expatriate worker hailing from Moodbidri on the outskirts of Mangaluru in Dakshina Kannada district, who was stranded in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia after allegedly being duped by a travel agency, finally returned home thanks to the timely help from the Indian Social Forum (ISF), Eastern Province team.

A young man hailing from Moodbidri in Dakshina Kannada worked in a desert in Al-Jubail Saudi Arabia who was being conned by a travel agent returned home safe on 3rd November thanks to the timely help from Indian Social Forum (ISF) Eastern Province Team.

According to his family members, Nagaraj had flown to the oil-rich kingdom a few months ago after being selected in a job interview conducted at Rolex Tours and Travels, Mangaluru. He was promised a job as industrial electrician in a reputed company in Al-Jubail, the industrial hub of Saudi Arabia. He also paid certain amount of money to the travel agency.

However, after he landed in Saudi Arabia, he was forced to work as an assistant in a farm in a remote area in Al-Jubail with no proper food and accommodation. His sponsor company denied that the electrician profession visa was issued to him. On the other hand, when Nagarj’s brother Sukumar approached the same travel agency to bring him back, it reportedly demanded SR 9,000.00 (Rs 175,000). He paid Rs 100,000, but got no response for a month.

Meanwhile, Sukumar came to know about Indian Social Forum’s role in helping several such stranded Indians in the kingdom. He approached ISF member Hasan Kinnigoli and sought help.

Following this, a team of ISF from Jubail comprising Hasan Kinnigoli, Imthiyaz Bajpe, Kaiser Kannangar, Ashraf Ullal and Naushad Katipalla met Nagaraj in the desert and assured him the safe return to home. The team constantly followed up with the sponsor company and convinced the management about his situation and ordeal. The ISF was finally successful in getting exit visa and his pending salary from the company. The travel agency also had to return the money taken from Nagaraj’s family.

Nagaraj’s brother Sukumar and mother Gangavati have appreciated the selfless service of ISF members. We are grateful to the Indian Social Forum for extending relentless support during the most distressed time,” said Gangavati.

Bengaluru, May 6: Arrested JD-S MLA H.D. Revanna, the son of former PM H.D. Deve Gowda, on Sunday said that there is no evidence against him in the sex video scandal kidnapping case and that it was a "conspiracy" against him.

Talking to the media, while being taken for a medical test before being produced in front of a court here, Revanna stated that a kidnapping case had been lodged against him though he does not have 'one black mark' against him in his entire career of 40 years.

"Without evidence, I have been targeted... All allegations against me are false. My arrest has been made out of ill intention," he claimed.

"The case was lodged on April 28, then, they did not have any evidence. Later, the fake evidence was created on May 2 and I was fixed," he alleged.

Home Minister Dr G. Parameshwara stated on Sunday that a Blue Corner notice has already been issued against Revanna's son and MP Prajwal Revanna, the prime accused in the sex video scandal, as he is believed to be abroad.

"The Interpol will communicate to all nations and he will be located. Once he is located, the SIT will take a call on how he should be secured and brought back to India," he added.

Revanna was arrested on Saturday on charges of kidnapping one of the victims of the sex video scandal.

Parameshwara further maintained that the arrest of Revanna has saddened JD-S leaders and if action was not taken, the SIT would be blamed too.

Meanwhile, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge refused to comment on the alleged sex video scandal involving Prajwal Revanna.

About Revanna's arrest, he said that the SIT would initiate action as per the law. "Those indulging in such acts must be taught a lesson and justice should be given to the families of victims. No one can escape the law. No one should use this case politically," he stated.

Several women, believed to be victims of Prajwal Revanna, have left their homes in Karnataka's Hassan district over the last ten days, according to media reports.

These departures reportedly come amid fear and stigma after their identities became public due to the circulating video clips showing the women who were allegedly sexually assaulted by Prajwal Revanna.

"The entire district is in H D Revanna’s control. You speak ill about them and chances are high that it will reach them, because the family and the party have a large following," a shopkeeper in Hagare - 20 km from Hassan – was quoted as saying by the news paper.

Hassan is the bastion of the JD(S) supremo Deve Gowda, and Prajwal, his grandson, is the sitting MP.

The family of the woman whose complaint was the basis of the first FIR against Prajwal has now left their home, the publication reported, citing a neighbour who said, "The woman worked at Revanna’s house as a house help. Some of her videos started to circulate and then, her house was seen locked. We don’t know when she left."

Notably, a former Zilla Panchayat member has also filed a rape case against Prajwal, and in that village many women who worked for the party formerly are now incommunicado, a JD(S) leader told the publication. "We noticed many of the party women deleting their photos with Prajwal on social media. In some instances, men are questioning their wives about their association with the MP. It is shattering the lives of many women in the district," he said.

The local leader added that the former Zilla Panchayat member was there on April 24, but no one had seen the family since the videos came out.

The case is currently being probed by an SIT team and when they reached the Revanna residence, party workers were reportedly heard talking about the women. "I know this woman, she lived close to our residence and was very active in JD(S) activities. Her house is locked… she has small children," one said, as per IE.

Another shopkeeper added, "It was really wrong to reveal the faces of the women. I know some of them, and they have gone into hiding. We don’t know whether they can return."

He noted that it is impossible to survive in Hassan while fighting a case against the Revanna family.

While Prajwal's father, H D Revanna is in SIT custody, a Blue Corner notice has been issued against the sitting MP.

Mangaluru: Disgruntled BJP leader and former MLA K Raghupathi Bhat, who is contesting the legislative council election as an independent candidate from the South West Graduates constituency, said the BJP has adopted the “godfather culture” of the Congress.

Bhat told reporters here on Saturday, that he has not tried to appease any senior BJP leaders to get a party ticket to contest the MLC poll.

“I am contesting and seeking votes based on my achievements. My contesting may have a negative impact on the BJP. However, I want to go back to the BJP after winning this election,” Bhat said, and refused to answer the actual reason for the denial of a BJP ticket to him.

“I have no idea who played from behind that I was denied a ticket for the MLC poll.

Earlier, the BJP had a culture of selecting candidates for MLA and MLC polls by seeking the opinion of party workers at the booth level, followed by discussions at mandal and district levels.

Now the situation is such that even if one person’s name was sent from the state, the final list will be different. The godfather culture of the Congress has stretched into our party too. Only those who appease leaders get a ticket in the BJP. However, I have not appeased any leader. I believe in the support of party workers, and with this confidence I am contesting the election,” Bhat said.

To a query, Bhat said that he has not contacted by BJP leaders after deciding to contest the MLC poll.

“I have already requested all leaders that I should get the party’s Form B to contest the MLC poll from the South West Graduates constituency. I have told them that I am also contesting as an independent candidate on behalf of the BJP. The ultimate aim of my contesting the election is that senior leaders should know the injustice that honest party workers are facing in the BJP,” he said.
