Puttur, July 16: Former chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda on Monday pour out his pent up emotions before a massive gathering of fans and Bharatiya Janata Party workers in the town on Monday

Accepting the heart-touching felicitation organized by his well-wishers at Buntara Bhavan here, Mr Gowda not only expressed his gratitude to the party workers for their cooperation during his tenure as CM, but also dedicated his unforgettable tenure to them.

Addressing the party workers Mr Gowda brushed aside the allegations of involving in caste politics and said that he tried to leverage Vokkaliga community support at community meets only for the saffron party and never for self.

He regretted that he did not receive full cooperation from ministerial colleagues when he did not entertain their files outside norms. However he clarified that he did not face any administrative troubles during his 331-days tenure as CM.

“I could have prolonged my tenure by a few more days if I wanted so. "Normally, MLAs desert a CM who puts in his papers. But, I had the support of 63 MLAs after I decided to quit and could have easily mustered support of another 12-odd MLAs and bolster my numbers in the number game that was being played out," he said.

Mr Gowda turned emotional when he went on to claim himself as the biggest beneficiary of BJP.

Recalling the experiences as CM he said mentioned that introduction of 'Sakala' was the happiest moment of his tenure, while the death of V S Acharya was the saddest moment.

He also said that he thought of stepping down crossed his mind at least three times in past 11-months when things did not go as expected. “However, this time I voluntarily quit in order to end instability in government that was hampering drought relief efforts in the state”, he said.

“It was at my insistence that the party leadership decided to take a call on effecting a change in leadership after I explained to them that political imbroglio in the state unit of the party is having a bearing on daily administration," he clarified.

Mr Gowda also said that he would extend full cooperation to his successor Jagadish Shettar and give him any advice and suggestions if sought.

Earlier Mr Gowda was taken to the venue in a grand open jeep procession.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
