Local leader of CPI (M) Vasanth Achar formally inaugurated the three-day-long 'Jatha' by handing over the party flag to CPI (M) Mangalore City Committee Secretary Sunil Kmar Bajal, near Central Market.
Mr Bajal said that CPI (M)'s massive dharna in front of MCC building was aimed at pressurising the BJP-dominant civic body to address the problems of the citizens of Mangalore. Burning issues such as privatisation of drinking water, hike in prices, faulty billing, self-assessment scheme (SAS) of property tax, lack of underground drains, undisposed waste, increasing cases of vulnerable diseases like malaria and dengue, unending problem of slaughter houses etc. would be raised in the dharna, he said.
He said that CPI (M) cadres would visit all 60 wards of MCC in next three days and create awareness among the people about the failure of MCC and need of massive protest against it.
Party activists Dayananda Shetty, Lingappa Nanthoor, B.K. Imthiyaz, Vasudev Uchil, L.T. Suvarna are leading the awareness Jatha.
