Mangalore, August 7: Two more traditional fishing boats capsized at mouth of estuary off the South Wharf here, due to the high-rising waves and powerful storm on Monday.
Fortunately, other fishermen, who caught a glimpse of the accident at sea, rescued all eight fishermen on board the two capsized boats and brought them to the coast. Losses are estimated at over Rs 20 lakh.
A fishing boat 'Saniya Manjushree' had set out for fishing on Monday along with fishermen Santhosh, Sanjeev, Sandesh and Umesh of Kundapur.
When they were returning, the sea all of a sudden turned rough in the wake of strong wind near the mouth of estuary and a strong wave capsized the boat. Immediately, other fishermen who were on another boat managed to rescue all the four fishermen.
In another incident, a gill net fishing boat 'Al-Nur' set out for fishing on Monday morning. When fishermen Manohar, Johnson, Janam and Saravan were returning, their boat capsized due to a strong wind.
When the fishermen were thrown in to the sea, other fishermen rushed towards the spot and rescued them.
This is the third incident of a boat capsizing in the last two days at mouth of estuary. On Sunday four fishermen were rescued by other fishermen when their traditional boat capsized at the same place.
