Udupi, August 9: Sir Laxmivarateertha Swamiji of Shiroor Mutt laid emphasis on the need of promoting communal harmony in order to establish a peaceful society in the region.
Expressing his feelings to the Muslim community leaders during his goodwill visit to newly renovated Jamia Masjid, in Udupi, which is set to be inaugurated on Friday August 10, said that both Hindus and Muslims share equal responsibility to build a peaceful society.
Fostering mutual understanding and cooperation among different communities is the initial step to establish communal harmony in the society, he said. “Every member of Hindu and Muslim community should understand this fact”, he said.
Admiring the architecture of the renovated Masjid, he exhorted the leaders of Muslim community to spread the message of patriotism, unity, brotherhood, peace and communal harmony through such religious centres.
On the same occasion Jamia Masjid managing committee president Budan Basha handed over a copy of Kannada translation of holy Quran to Swamiji.
Officer bearers of the managing committee Qamruddin, V S Umar, Karamath Ali, Mohammad Maula, Abdul Ghafoor, Ibrahim Kaup were also present on the occasion.
