Mangalore, August 26: Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha Member Oscar Fernandes said that a central team has already been requested to visit the district and chalk out special packages and programmes to control spread of diseases like malaria, dengue and leptospirosis.
He was speaking to media persons during his brief visit to Government Wenlock Hospital here, Mr. Fernandes said the outbreak of these diseases, seen during the monsoon, should be curtailed at the earliest.
He interacted with patients suffering from malaria and leptospirosis. Officials at Wenlock hospital said over 2,400 patients had been admitted to the hospital after being diagnosed with malaria, three of whom had succumbed to the disease.
Currently 11 dengue and 11 leptospirosis patients were recuperating in the hospital, according to the officials.
