Udupi, August 28: An elderly women and a middle-aged man were washed away in flash floods triggered by heavy rains Udupi district.
40-year-old Krishna Poojary alias Yesu, a resident of Uppoor village in Udupi taluk, drowned after he accidentally slipped and fell into the Swarna river.
According to the police and Udupi Taluk Office, Yesu had gone out to defecate at around 9 p.m. on Sunday.
His dead body was recovered at 8 a.m. on Monday. A case had been registered at the Brahmavar Police Station, the police said.
In a separate incident, a 75-year-old woman identified as Yechu Naik, a resident of Majur village, was washed away in flood waters.
According to police Yechu had gone to fetch milk on Sunday. While she was returning home, there was a heavy downpour, flooding the fields. She was carried away by strong currents of the floods and her body was recovered in a nearby field at 7 a.m. on Monday. A case had been registered at the Kaup Police Station.
