Mangalore, August 30: A massive protest rally against the assault on students at Morning Mist homestay will be held under the joint auspices of Youth Congress, NSUI, SFI, DYFI, AISF, VJD(S), AIYF, and other like-minded student and youth organisations cutting across political barriers on September 1 in the city.
Addressing media persons at a press meet in Mangalore on Thursday, Mithun Rai, President of Youth Congress, DK, said that the attack on young boys and girls at the homestay was condemnable. The culprits have still not been booked under Goonda Act and through the protest rally, a demand would be made before the Deputy Commissioner to take appropriate measures, he said. Students from different colleges in and around the city and College unions are also scheduled to participate in the protest, he said.
Muneer Katipalla, President, DYFI, DK, said that the fight was apolitical and was being carried out with the sole aim of protecting the rights of the region's youth.
A peaceful procession would be held from Jyothi Circle to Deputy Commissioner's office at 10 am, where the protest would be staged.
