Abu Dhabi, Sept 24: Mumbai Indians displayed a stunning performance against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to seal a comfortable 49-run victory in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match here on Wednesday.

Rohit Sharma played a fast-paced inning of 80 runs before bowlers destroyed KKR's batting line up, confirming Mumbai Indians' win in the match.

Chasing a massive target of 196 runs, KKR got off to a poor start as both the openers Shubman Gill and Sunil Narine were dismissed within the first five overs. Trent Boult got hold of Gill (7) while Narine was caught behind off James Pattinson's delivery.

Nitish Rana and Dinesh Karthik then took the field and played cautiously and took the team over the 50-run mark. They formed a 46-run partnership before Karthik (30) was given LBW in the 11th over, bowled by Rahul Chahar. In the next over, Kieron Pollard dismissed Rana (24), putting KKR under immense pressure.

Eoin Morgan and Andre Russell then took the responsibility of the chase but Jasprit Bumrah was brought back into the attack and the pacer restricted batsmen from hitting big shots. KKR were playing at 82/4 after the completion of the 13th over.

The fall of the wickets did not stop as Bumrah removed both Russell and Morgan in the 16th over. In the Bumrah's next over, Pat Cummins came out furiously and struck four sixes to the pacer.

Although Bumrah conceded 27 runs in the over, it did not make much of a difference. Pattinson then dismissed Cummins (33) in the 19th over.

Chahar bowled the last over and Mumbai Indians easily registered a win in the match. Bumrah, Boult, Chahar, and Pattinson all picked up two wickets each in the match.

Earlier, put in to bat, Mumbai Indians had a worst possible start with opener Quinton de Kock back in the hut in the very second over.

Suryakumar then joined skipper Rohit and bludgeoned the KKR bowling attack. Suryakumar smashed six fours and one six in his 47 runs knock off 28 balls.

In the 11th over, Rohit and Suryakumar tried to steal a double but the 30-year-old batsman had to make his way back to the dugout after a mixup in the middle. The run-out came against the run of play.

Meanwhile, Rohit continued his brilliant batting and scored boundaries at regular intervals. Saurabh Tiwary and Rohit stitched a 49 run stand before Sunil Narine dismissed the left-handed batsman in the 16th over.

Two overs later, Shivam Mavi ended Rohit's blistering innings. He whacked six maximum in his knock of 80 runs and also registred his 200th six in the IPL. He is the second Indian to do so. CSK skipper MS Dhoni has 214 IPL sixes under his belt.

In the death overs, Hardik Pandya failed to leave a mark and got out hit-wicket. Kieron Pollard too didn't connect how he used to and Mumbai weren't able to get past 200 run-mark.

For KKR, Mavi took two while Narine and Andre Russell scalped one wicket each.

New Delhi, Oct 26: After Chennai Super Kings (CSK) failed to secure a berth in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 playoffs, MS Dhoni's wife, Sakshi, posted a heartfelt message saying that it is just a game and "no one wants to lose but not all can be winners."

The bottom-placed team on the points table, CSK missed out on the playoffs spot after Rajasthan Royals defeated Mumbai Indians.

Sakshi took to Instagram and shared a post which read: "It's just a game.. You win some you lose some!! Years gone by are witness to many enthralling victories and a few agonising defeats! Celebrating one and being heartbroken by the other!! Some reasonable response others not so... Some win, some lose and others miss...It's just a game!"

"Many preachers and varied reactions! Allow emotions not to beat the very essence of sportsmanship.. It's just a game! No one wants to lose, but not all can be winners! When struck down, stunned, the walk back from the field seems long. Jubilant sounds and sighs add to the pain, inner strength takes control It's all just a game!! You were winners then, you are winners now! True warriors are born to fight as they will always be Super Kings in our hearts and in our minds!!" she added.

CSK on Sunday defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by eight wickets at the Dubai International Stadium. Ruturaj Gaikwad played an unbeaten knock of 65 runs, helping his team to chase down a target of 146 runs.

Sharjah, Oct 17: Shikhar Dhawan smashed his maiden IPL century and Axar Patel whacked three sixes in the final over to help Delhi Capitals defeat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by five wickets here at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

Dhawan smashed 101 runs off 58 balls and recorded his first-ever century in the Indian Premier League to guide Delhi Capitals to the top spot. With this win, the Shreyas Iyer led side has regained the top position in the points table with 14 points.

In the last two overs, Delhi Capitals needed 21 runs but Sam Curran bowled brilliantly and gave away just four runs. However, a final over cameo by Axar which saw him whacking three sixes helped Delhi Capitals chase the target with one ball to spare

Dhawan had also survived a scare on 99 in the penultimate over. The on-field umpire gave him out but he went for a review straight away and the replay confirmed that there was no edge.

Chasing 180 runs, Delhi Capitals got off to a worst possible start as Prithvi Shaw chipped the ball straight back to Deepak Chahar in the very first over.

Ajinkya Rahane then joined Shikhar Dhawan in the middle but their partnership didn't flourish as Sam Curran took an exceptional catch at point and Rahane had to walk back to the pavilion in the fifth over.

Skipper Shreyas Iyer and Dhawan then rebuilt the innings with the latter smashing 40th IPL half-century. Dhawan whacked the ball all around the park for fours.

However, Dwayne Bravo dismissed Delhi Capitals' skipper to put a brake at the peddle in the 12th over. Meanwhile, Dhawan continued his fine form and smashed boundaries at regular intervals.

With 71 needed in the last seven overs, Marcus Stonis and Dhawan accelerated to bring down the ever-mounting required rate. Stonis smashed 24 runs off 14 balls before getting out in the 16th over.

Delhi Capitals required 41 runs in the last four overs and Dhawan started his onslaught and the equation came down to 21 runs off the last two overs with Delhi finally getting over the line.

Earlier after opting to bat first, Ambati Rayudu and Ravindra Jadeja's knocks powered Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to 179/4 in their 20 overs.

Jadeja smashed 33 off 13 while Rayudu scored 45 from 25 balls including four sixes.

Opting to bat first, Sam Curran (0) failed to open his scoring and was sent back to the pavilion in the first over of the innings by Tushar Deshpande.

Shane Watson joined Faf du Plessis in the middle and stitched a solid 87-run partnership for the side. Anrich Nortje scalped the second wicket for his team as he dismissed Watson (36) in the 12th over.

Ambati Rayudu and Du Plessis had a 22-run brief stand for the third wicket before the latter was bagged by Kagiso Rabada in the 15th over. Du Plessis played a knock of 58 runs studded with two sixes and six fours.

CSK skipper MS Dhoni promoted himself up in the order but failed to have an impact on the scoreboard. Dhoni (3) was caught behind the stumps off Nortje.

Ravindra Jadeja and Rayudu accumulated 50 runs for the fifth wicket. CSK finished at 179/4 in 20 overs. For Delhi Capitals, Nortje claimed two wickets while Rabada and Deshpande bagged one wicket each.

Brief scores: Delhi Capitals 185/5 [Shikhar Dhawan 101(58), Marcus Stoinis 24(14), Deepak Chahar 2-18, Dwayne Bravo 1-23] beat CSK 179/4 [Faf du Plessis 58, Ambati Rayudu 45, Anrich Nortje 2-44].

Dubai, Oct 18: Mike Hesson, Director of Cricket, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) labelled AB de Villiers as "superhuman" after the wicket-keeper batsman played a match-winning knock against Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

His remark came as RCB chased down 178 with seven wickets in hand and two balls to spare. De Villiers played an unbeaten knock of 55 runs off just 22 balls with the help of one four and 6 sixes.

"He is superhuman, there are very few in the cricket world who could do that, we are very lucky to have him in RCB, we have seen a couple of performances like this from him this year, probably three to be fair and in the match against Rajasthan, he was as good as it gets," Hesson said in a video posted on the official Twitter handle of RCB.

"Priority for us is to get better, we won against Rajasthan Royals on the back of outstanding individual performance, we relied on the fact that ABD is as good as he was. Chris Morris was exceptional but all in all, it was not our best performance, it's a good sign for RCB that we haven't played our best cricket yet we managed to win.

De Villiers had come to the crease in the 13th over with RCB still requiring 76 runs from 42 balls.

"There was no doubt that the momentum was with the opposition, basically it was there's to win. We never lost belief, Virat, Finchy and Dev laid a good foundation for us, it was difficult to get the ball away, it got pretty soft later on. We just maintained the belief, we got literally a couple of balls to get out of the ground and we started believing from there," de Villiers said in a video posted on the official Twitter handle of RCB.

In the match against RCB, Rajasthan Royals batted first and posted a total of 177/6 in the allotted twenty overs. Steve Smith top-scored for Royals as he played a knock of 57 runs off just 36 balls.

Chris Morris was the pick of RCB bowlers as he returned with figures of 4-26 from his four overs.

RCB is now at the third position in the IPL 2020 standings with 12 points from nine matches.

The side will next take on Kolkata Knight Riders on October 21 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
